Shit Ventriloquist Cartoon.
I had the idea for this cartoon really early in the week. Just needed to find time between contributing towards the Vets Maserati with personal plates fund, and taking official ownership of Riley. Lots of Gottle in this week contest. The theme was set as Ventriloquist. Another word I can't believe I can spell without help from the spell checker. It's a Scottish thing.

Jesus' Corporate Job Interview by Mike Lynch
Jesus goes for a job interview. It does not go well. Click below to supersize.Below is the rough, from my sketchbook. The final version is very close to the rough, with the exception of the last panel. I thought that the devil does not need to offer a suitcase full of money. the devil will be attractive on his own merits.

Video: 2006 STAR TREK KFC Commercial
Kirk, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov and an unnamed Red Shirt are all here in this live action commercial for Kentucky Fired Chicken. Although it was shown in 2006, this is the first time I've seen it, much less ever heard of it. Let me know if you ever saw it.Shatner, Doohan, Nichols, Takei and Koenig lend their voices, as we watch other actors who act eerily like them in the 1960s, mouth their

The Value of Sketching
Above: a study in contrasts. A kid enjoying a ride on sullen Dad's shoulders at the mall. This was draw in in about six seconds.I was at the mall, bored outta my mind. And then I recalled that I could draw the shoppers passing by for a while. Ahh! Now, that's entertainment. When sketching in public, my one rule is DON'T. I mean, really, the last thing you want to do is get caught drawing people
"Let It @*!#" by Stephanie Piro

This time I did it quicker, but is it any better?
I re-drew the cartoon from today's contest. Not allowed to post it of course, but this time took a lot less time, if you know what I mean. The colour version took ages to be honest, and I was not happy with the end results of the drawing, so this took me literally no time at all (well, OK - about 10 minutes, if that). The colour version wouldn't be any good for marketing anyway, as very few
Just Deserts.
This week's contest was set by last weeks winner, Roger Kettle. The theme was "Desert Island". Wide open this week. I like to think I've stuck to the traditional approach to the themed contests, and not used some witty caption to win a crackerjack pencil, but all the others have cheated (with a few exceptions!). It's a classic cliché for cartoonists. I could have saved myself a lot of time and

MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER #15, August 1966
The Gold Key Comics Blog scans in an entire issue of MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER. With art by the late, great Russ Manning (and a script by Herb Castle), this was one of the MAGNUS comics I owned as a kid.Magnus was a big beefy guy -- a square jawed hero-type who had a brilliant mind and a fierce uppercut. When the servant robots got out of control, which happened every issue, he was the man to knock '

Video: Zapiro Draws
South African editorial cartoonist "Zapiro" draws "our most famous person" in a Capetown scene. These are my favorite kind of videos: where we see drawing in real time. No speeding up, no "Benny Hill" music in the backgroung, y'know? Now, so far as I can tell (and I could be mistaken), Zapiro doesn't pencil. He just dives right in with a felt tip on a piece of typing paper. He is, if you know

Mike Lynch Cartoon in January 15, 2011 WALL STREET JOURNAL
"Billy's opinions do not reflect the view of the Andersons, their affiliates or subsidiaries."The nice thing about having my cartoon in the Weekend Edition of the Wall Street Journal is that it tends to be read more casually than the daily. It's thicker and there are more feature articles. It tends to be taken home to be consumed in a more leisurely fashion (by more people). So ... more readers
Just when you thought you'd seen it all....
This week's entry in the caption contest. It's actually the second cartoon I drew for it, but I'm only allowed to enter one cartoon. I'll post the other cartoon when the contest closes on Monday evening.

TOONERVILLE TROLLEY by Fontaine Fox
Bhob Stewart's Potrzebie blog (one of my favorite blogs) shows us, in Fontaine Fox's own words, how he (Mr. Fox) came up the the name TOONERVILLE TROLLEY.
A cartoon that I forgot to post.
I forgot to post this cartoon in last weeks cartoon caption contest. Had it all drawn and ready to go, and then missed the deadline. How stupid of me! Never mind. At least posting it on here I'll be able to witness the strange phenomena of Feedburner numbers going down every time I post something on here. 107 readers at the moment, but strangely this will now drop to about 70 for a while.
